MEDICAL
SERVICES
Sunshine Coast Community Health Council
Saint Mary's Hospital (604) 885-2224
St. Mary's Hospital was built in 1964 on land donated by the Sechelt
Indian Band. St. Mary's is the region's only acute-extended care
facility and must meet a diverse set of medical needs.
The hospital offers the following services/programs:
Totem Lodge (604) 885-8602
Totem Lodge is the only extended care
facility on the Sunshine Coast. The Lodge provides a homelike atmosphere
for the fifty residents. Totems Lodge provides constant care, as
many of the residents have difficulty in functioning due to chronic
illness, trauma, or the aging process. A daily activity and music
program is offered to enable residents to participate in exercise
and social opportunities.
Kiwanis Village Care Home (604) 886-8132
Kiwanis Village is an Intermediate Care Facility providing 37 residents
with 24-hour professional nursing supervision, daily living assistance,
dietary service, housekeeping, laundry, recreation and social activities.
Shorncliffe Intermediate Care Facility
(604) 885-5126
Built in 1983, this facility enables resident’s to live closer to
family members on the Sunshine Coast. Shorncliffe is a 61-bed intermediate
care facility, with 10 beds dedicated to the Special Care Unit.
Some of the services/activities offered include a music therapy
program, pastoral services, adult day care, and respite care.
Greencourt Seniors Housing (604) 885-5962
This 63-unit complex located in Sechelt offers senior citizens subsidized
independent living facilities. Funded by the provincial government,
this complex has been in existence for 30 years with future expansion
expected in 2000.
Coast Garibaldi Community Health Services
Society (CGCHSS) (604) 886-5600
Coast Garibaldi Community Health Services Society (CGCHSS) is the
regional health service provider for the Sunshine Coast, formerly
known as the Provincial Health Unit. Now under a regional mandate,
the CGCHSS employs staff through funding from the Ministry of Health
and the Ministry of Children and Families. Local offices for CGCHSS
are located at the corner of Inlet Ave. & Dolphin St. (Health Unit)
and 5544 Sunshine Coast Highway (Mental Health Centre).

There is a wide range of medical services offered within the District
of Sechelt, which include:
ORGANIZATIONS
Community Resource Centre, 5520 Trail Ave., Sechelt - 604-885-4088.
Opening hours are: Mon-Fri from 11:30-5:30. The Community Resource Centre informs, refers, educates and empowers our community one person at a time. Services: Information and referral, community library, pro bono legal clinics (by appointment); community kitchen, free computer/Internet, one-to-one computer assistance (by appointment); community volunteer income tax program (by appointment); Sunshine Coast Living with Cancer Support Group (drop in every third Saturday of each month 1-3pm); workshops (money management, legal, parenting, cooking, and more); Grandparents Network (drop in 1st Monday of each month 10am - noon); money management for women (advice, courses, support groups, e-newsletter, handouts), form filling (by appointment); Sunshine Coast Seniors Housing Information (by appointment), women's pot luck - drop in 2nd Wednesday of each month 12-1:30 pm. We also rent space for community networks, meetings and events. Call for further information.
Sunshine Coast Regional District (SCRD)

The Parks and Recreation Division co-ordinates leisure and recreational
programs that are not provided by other groups or agencies for the
entire Sunshine Coast. There are also a number of multi-use halls,
which the SCRD offers for rent including: Coopers Green-Halfmoon
Bay, Chaster House-Bonniebrook/ Gibsons, Frank West Hall – Elphinstone/Gibsons.
Sunshine Coast Community Services Society (SCCSS) (604) 885-5881
Established in 1974, Sunshine Coast Community Services Society is
a registered charity to assist with social, health, educational,
transportation and housing services to Sunshine Coast residents.
Consideration is primarily given to the needs of families and children
within the community.

Sunshine Coast Association for Community
Living (SCACL) (604) 885-7455
Founded in 1958 and registered as a non-profit society, SCACL has
a mandate to provide services to adults with mental disabilities.
The society also recruits and screens respite caregivers who assist
parents with caregiving responsibilities. Also, SCACL serves as
a point of reference for many families with disabled school aged
children.

The SCHSS provides support services and programs that enhance the
quality of life for those who are elderly or disabled.

Sunshine Coast R.C.M.P Victim/Witness
Services Program (604) 885-5554
The Victim/Witness Services Program provides assistance to all communities
on the Sunshine Coast. With offices in both Gibsons and Sechelt,
staff and volunteers are available to provide emergency services,
information, assistance, referrals and court orientation/witness
preparation.
FACILITIES
Senior Citizens Activity Centre Society

This very active society has weekly activities and special events
throughout the year. Events are held within the Activity Centre
on Trail Avenue, with something for everyone. The Centre is also
equipped with a commercial class kitchen, ballroom dance area, a
pool table, and a number of multi-purpose rooms.
